There have been many books about robots and artificial intelligence e.g. Isaac Asimov’s classics and more recent apocalyptic works. This is different in that it aims to explore realistically the effect on human relationships of the introduction of high functioning humanoid robots into everyday life. It deals, with some humour, with the different attitudes of males and females towards relations with the opposite sex highlighted by their interaction with the robots.
It also considers the implications of handing over to these entities control of aspects of our lives, for instance as carers. While not in any way depicting them as inherently malign, it is posing the question: are we in the process of creating beings who will replace us at the top of the evolutionary tree? Will we end up as little more than pets of these superior beings?
